Addis Wiley - Retired New York City Bus Operator

A Staten Island, New York-based retiree, Addis Wiley worked in data entry, construction, and public transportation during his 35-year career. A graduate of McKee Vocational & Technical High School, he won back-to-back Staten Island Public Schools basketball championships in his junior and senior years and later studied sports education and computer science at SUNY Morrisville and the College of Staten Island. Addis Wiley began his career as a data entry clerk at Erisco, inputting and processing medical files.

Addis Wiley later worked for two years with Techno Construction Co. as a member of Laborers Local 731. He primarily framed and resurfaced streets and sidewalks and maintained storm sewers and catch basins. He joined the New York City Transit Authority as a bus operator in 1997 and spent 26 years with the transport system, operating a high-occupancy bus throughout New York City's five boroughs and New Jersey.

Mr. Wiley is an ordained elder with The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ whose hobbies include travel, sports, strength training, and chess. He won the Martin Luther King Chess Tournament at St. Philips Baptist Church in 2015, and created his own strength training program.
